BMC Biology is the flagship biology journal of the BMC series, pioneer of open access publishing. We select papers of particular interest or importance to nonspecialists, with a scope that includes research and methodology articles across all of biology and a commitment to serving authors well. Policies with the aim of reducing frustration and delays to publication include

•re-review opt-out,

•report registration, newly introduced this year

A focus of this presentation will be an introduction to these policies and the rationale behind them.
